My name is Matt Todhunter and this is my build log for my RV-7. I am 28 years old and a mechanical engineer (Georgia Tech 2006), working for Chromalloy Georgia, a company that repairs and manufactures components for turbine engines. I am married to the most wonderful wife and have a chihuahua named Ish and a daughter on the way. I have been into cars, primarily Hondas, since age 15. I became interested in building my own airplane after getting invited to a fly-in at my boss' house and getting a ride in an RV-7A. I went home, sold all my project and collector cars, and had an empennage and tool kit within a month. I don't have a pilot's license, and don't know all that much about flying General Aviation, but I do know that the little that I have done, I have immensely enjoyed. I have never built an airplane before.

Milestones I've Reached So Far:
  • 04-Jun-2007 - Ordering the empennage
  • 19-Jun-2007 - Starting the empennage
  • 24-Jun-2007 - Setting my first rivet on the aircraft
  • 22-Jul-2007 - Completing the first major sub-assembly (HS)
  • 16-Aug-2007 - Reordering parts that I messed up for the first time (Rudder)
  • 15-Nov-2007 - Using Pro-Seal for the first time
  • 12-Dec-2007 - Drilling lead for the first time
  • 26-Dec-2007 - Ordering the wings
  • 27-Jan-2008 - Riveted the rudder TE
  • 29-Jan-2008 - Rolled the rudder LE
  • 17-Feb-2008 - Began working on the dreaded trim tab
  • 25-Feb-2008 - Began working on the wings
  • 30-Jun-2008 - Finished deburring / straightening / fluting all the wing ribs
  • 31-Jul-2008 - Started working on the right fuel tank
  • 20-Oct-2008 - Closing the right fuel tank
  • 16-Nov-2008 - Right wing reaches "quick build" status
  • 29-Dec-2008 - Started working on the left wing
  • 01-Sep-2009 - Closing the left fuel tank
